Our guestbook was opened just a few days ago. Many entries would help us in these sad hours, as we hope, that you, dear reader, would have had many good memorable experiences with our father / husband, just as we are very grateful for everything he has done for us. - Many thanks from our hearts for the personal words with which we and others are being comforted by those that have already shared their thoughts here. It is such a diversity, from loving details about our father and husband - that made us smile despite our grief, seeing what you saw, when he was still alive - to heartfealt words of condolence that help us handle the loss in another way. In any way, THANK YOU for sharing and helping in such a personal and thoughtful way!!!

As a friend of Karsten's, my most vivid memories of Mr. Arend revolve around how warmly he always greeted us when we visited Karsten. This was especially true on several occasions when the Arend family graciously invited us (Karsten's firends) for a meal at their home. Our conversations with Mr. Arend at the table were always memorable, and his spirit and sense of humour always evident.
There is a saying that the eyes are the windows to the soul. I always remember in Mr. Arend's eyes great kindness, a true love for his family, and a gentleness that spoke to how much of a gentleman he was.
To have been the patriarch of a great family, and to have raised such great children speak to what a great man Mr. Arend was.
I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to have gotten to know a man with such rare kindness, generosity, and gentleness of spirit as Mr. Arend.

Dear Doris, Ariane and Karsten,
We were so sorry to hear of Joachim’s passing. God has taken him away from you and I think we are all thankful now that he is free of the pain and suffering he had to endure.
We will never forget the many wonderful hours we shared with Joachim and you. These are memories we will always treasure, the parties in your and our house as well as the times at the polo games, which seem so long ago. He was always such a charmer, full of compliments and a wonderful
guest. Torsten just loved the lunches he had with Joachim and always looked forward to a stimulating conversation and good food which was thoroughly enjoyed by the two of them.
We are so glad to see that Karsten and Jason , as the next generation, continue our friendship.
All three of you are in our prayers now.
Love always -- Astrid, Torsten and family
